Traffic Concerns - Beddington Heights

The Parent Council Meeting on December 2, 2015 was attended by a number of special guests who were here to support parents  surrounding recent traffic concerns in the community. Officer George Kovacs our S4 officer and Benzy Bewal our Community Liaison Officer met with parents, along with Andrew Chin, representative for City Councillor Chu. A number of issues were discussed. Traffic concerns in the community are handled by a different department than the one dealing with parking concerns here at school. City of Calgary Parking Authority can be accessed through 311 and concerns can be reported there.  Officer Benzy Bewal can be accessed through pol4617@calgarypolice.ca  She will continue to support community concerns related to traffic safety and will bring those concerns to traffic control meetings at the district office. Andrew Chin is asking that parents continue to file reports related to traffic safety. The possibility of lights and traffic control are examined by the city when there are a significant number of reports. This will prioritize where the city will focus their energies on traffic control. Officer Kovaks will continue to work with our children with patrols and in-school safety instruction related to care for self.

Our Beddington Community Social Worker, Marcia Dupris was also in attendance at the meeting. She has highlighted for us a number of measures our parent group has come up with to support traffic regulation and observation of safety. These are listed below:

1.       Identify process for submitting traffic safety requests – Benzy shared CPS’s website.
2.       Assess visibility of stop sign where the accident occurred. Andrew Chin (listed above)
3.       Include more safety/traffic articles in the Beddington Banner – If someone is able to write these or collect articles that are already written, it would just be a matter of giving it to the newsletter editor.
4.       Connect with Community Liaison Officer as there are community residents with no affiliation to the school who share their traffic safety concerns.

This has been a difficult time for our community. I am happy that we have a committed group of parents who are  concerned about our care for children and others in our community. It is a pleasure to continue to work closely with you as we continue to work toward solutions.
